WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO TRY OUR FITNESS CHALLENGE?
Admittedly, the first motivation is that I am a very competitive person so that drive immediately came forward to get me registered. I also liked the food tracking on My Fitness Pal. I had never tracked my food before - it was really eye opening to see what was truly fueling me and what was making me lethargic. The other big piece for me registering for the challenge was that I was already doing so well with taking Training Room classes, but wanted to see what my body was capable of if I joined the challenge and pushed myself to a new level of commitment to fitness.
OVERALL, WHAT DID YOU THINK ABOUT THE CHALLENGE?
I had a lot of fun participating in all of the different classes; joining in on ones that I wouldn't have normally hopped in on just to get that 1 point! I loved meeting new people in the classes and sharing stories at the beginning, during or after class of soreness and tiredness as the challenge continued week to week! The "wambulance" moans on some of the days were hilarious in many ways including, I believe, the group soreness sharing almost helped one another get through a work out...cause if they are here and participating, I can totally do it too!
DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CLASS?
I don't have just one, cheesy I know, but I love Pilates with Kim; I feel taller and have more mobility following the class. Trigger point with Rachel also rocks my world. It hurts like crazy, but your body and mind are so thankful after! Butts and Guts with Jessie keeps me sore for days after...you can't laugh or take stairs...in a good way! And the Lunch Time Crunch is awesome with Jackie. Don't under estimate those 45 min, Jackie makes it worth your lunch hour! I am excited to try Cycle Cross!
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO IS CONSIDERING TRYING THE CHALLENGE?
Go for it! No matter if you are just starting your fitness goals or working to maintain them; the fitness challenge adds a new element of accountability and a way to push your body in a way that you normally wouldn’t. I have to say I have seen some people come in to TRX (another favorite class with Erin) and just go beyond their ability to prove they can do it all for the full length of time. What I continue to tell myself is to take my time, listen to my body, do the form correctly and I will get faster, I will hold my side plank longer, etc. This is so important. You don’t have to be the best and can do the most in a min or 30 seconds. Do what your best output of energy is for that day and try hard.
Lastly, tracking my food in My Fitness Pal - at first was a pain in the butt and it sucked as it was a bit time consuming, but it got easier every day and it was super helpful in understanding what fuel to put in my body at what time of day and how much energy I was burning that day. Find a friend, family member, lover, whomever to do the challenge with you! It is so so helpful!
YOU WON OUR CHALLENGE A FEW MONTHS AGO! AS A WINNER, YOU GOT A FREE MONTH OF TRAINING WITH OUR COACH INDIA MEYER. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE?
I was so excited to win the challenge. I used the challenge as a base to ready myself, in hopes of winning the one month personal training.
Working with India was beyond awesome! No amount of words can explain how much I learned from India and how great of an experience it was working with her. She has changed and opened my mind to a different way of training. The workouts she put together fit where my body was at and what it was ready for, as well as, she built off of it week after week. She took the time to get to know me and get to know my strengths, my form, my weaknesses, how to use my strengths to improve my weakness. She motivated me, was accessible and working out in the Training Room space is motivating.
There is an energy that is contagious! There is always a trainer present to help explain a movement, spot you, look at your form and make sure you are using that work out to it's highest potential. By the end of the month, I am flashing one boulder grade higher than before the training began. I have gained many skills including learning workouts on the systems and Moonboard, utilizing bar bells, dumb bells and other equipment in a routine work out that I wouldn't have thought to put together. My mobility and flexibility has improved tremendously.
I am taking the holidays off from training with India, but plan to work with her in the new year to train for my climbing trip to Spain in the Spring!
WOULD YOU DO THE CHALLENGE AGAIN?
I would!! Absolutely! I want to maintain the fitness and strength that I have worked so hard to reach. What a better way to do that than to join a challenge that you gain points for participating! I am all about the points, gold stars, snack prizes, high fives....it's super fun! Not to mention, I was a size 12 when I started with Training Room classes in March and I just bought size 8 jeans last week!
Getting here has been a journey and the coaches, instructors and staff at the Training Room push and support you to stay on track and reach your goals!
